Over half-a-million masks are en route to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, after a nearby volcano forced the evacuation of over 20,000 residents. The masks are created and being donated by Crown Mutual Group, a Canadian PPE manufacturer. The Canadian Association of PPE Manufacturers (CAPPEM) is organizing a group donation, and Crown was happy to step up and donate.

Company director Ray Serion said, “CMG is thrilled to be aligned with CAPPEM and it’s our pleasure to lead the way to support others in need around the world …by supplying Canadian-made surgical masks to this hard-hit region.”

“We now have an abundance of quality PPE made in Canada so, it’s important for the world to know moving forward, Canada is here to help on the PPE front as well.”

BACKGROUND: Saint Vincent. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, located in the southern Caribbean, consists of more than 30 islands and cays, nine of which are inhabited. On April 9th of this year, a nearby volcano began erupting causing close to 20,000 people to evacuate the village of St. Vincent. It had not previously erupted since 1979.

The UN says about 4,000 of those displaced are now living in 87 shelters – many of which lack basic services such as drinking water. It was reported that continuous explosions and ashfall will continue over the coming weeks in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, but also in neighbouring islands such as Barbados, which has also been severely affected as well as Saint Lucia and Grenada. The UN has begun setting up an international funding appeal.

Canada is one of the first to respond with aid to the region. CAPPEM quickly sourced the inventory through the organization’s member Crown Mutual Group.
Comprised of over 27 companies and growing, CAPPEM is truly pan Canadian and culturally diverse with PPE manufacturers representing Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, British Columbia, Alberta, and Newfoundland including Aboriginal and ethnic-owned businesses.

Crown Mutual Group from Vancouver is one of many Canadian companies that stepped up to answer the call for PPE to help combat the COVID 19 pandemic. They are currently producing millions of medical-grade face mask a month from their certified facilities in Delta, BC.

The mask will leave a depot in Toronto, Canada, and be transported to the Caribbean.
